Our partners and our firm’s COVID-19 task force have been working diligently around the clock with government officials to learn more about closures and shutdowns that may impact your case.
WHAT TO KNOW
Due to the pandemic, your Social Security disability hearings in April will be held by telephone.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR A TELEPHONE HEARING
Attending a hearing over the phone is different than going to the courthouse. To ensure that your hearing goes as smoothly as possible over the telephone, we recommend the following:
- At least 10 minutes prior to the time scheduled for your hearing, find a quiet space in your home away from any noise.
- If you use a cell phone, make sure you are in a place with good cell reception, and have it fully charged as your hearing could last up to 60 minutes.
- Remain by your phone until the Judge calls you. Sometimes the hearings start late, so do not be alarmed if the Judge does not call you exactly at the scheduled time.
- Do not use your speaker phone. Using a headset will help the Judge and other parties hear you clearly.
DURING YOUR TELEPHONE HEARING
- Do not answer a question if you are unsure if you heard it correctly. Instead, ask for clarification.
- Rest assured that if the Judge doesn’t ask you certain questions, your Pond Lehocky Disability attorney will.
- Remember to be honest but do not exaggerate. Always stay calm and be courteous.
AS A REMINDER
- Remove yourself from areas where there are unnecessary background noises, such as children, pets, television, music, etc.
- Stay safe and do not join your telephone hearing while driving.
- Do not take any calls or answer texts during your hearing.
