While millions of Americans have not received stimulus paychecks yet due to an IRS glitch, some of those being hit the hardest are Social Security disability recipients. Founding partner Thomas Giordano told Bloomberg News this week that Social Security disability recipients are “the most underprivileged portion of our populace.”
Thursday’s Bloomberg report, Virus Payments Hit Glitches as IRS Sends Billions to Americans, revealed that many citizens are not receiving what they expected or having their check go to incorrect accounts.
“The ‘biggest concern’ is that people who don’t normally communicate with the IRS will need to take extra steps to get full payments,” Giordano said. “That is particularly hard because public libraries and other places that offer access to computers are closed due to the pandemic.”
The IRS has assured recipients of Social Security and Supplemental Security Income won’t have to do anything to receive their funds. However, these citizens will need to submit additional information receive payments for dependents.
Giordano has dedicated his career to assisting disabled Americans. Giordano has also previously served on the board of directors of the Epilepsy Foundation of Eastern Pennsylvania. A graduate of Rutgers University School of Law – Camden, Giordano currently serves as the chair of the Social Security Disability Committee of the American Association for Justice and as the co-chair of the Social Security Disability section of the Philadelphia Bar Association.
