Sam Pond shares insights on Workers Compensation Experts

Pond Lehocky’s managing partner Samuel H. Pond spoke with Tom Jackson at Workers Compensation Experts this week to shed light on how long workers compensation benefits last. As Sam Pond explains, workers’ compensation is a complicated matter and can depend on the injury, the state, and the qualifying benefits.

Under the federal enabling act, the workers’ compensation insurance company is required to pay for all medical treatment that is reasonable, necessary and related to the work-related injury until the injured worker has made a full and complete recovery of the work-related injury. The insurer can file a petition to terminate, Pond says, but the burden of proof is on the company. Meanwhile, federal law provides for penalties against an insurer if it fails or refuses to pay for ongoing medical care,” Pond was quoted.

Pond is a founding partner of Pond Lehocky, one of the largest workers’ compensation and disability law firm in Pennsylvania. A former President of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association, he served for six years as treasurer of that organization’s Committee for a Better Tomorrow. He has previously served in leadership roles for numerous organizations, including chair of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Workers’ Compensation Section and member of the Pennsylvania Board of Law Examiners.
