Partner Tom Giordano Moderates for Social Security Disability Panel

This week, Partner Tom Giordano moderated for a panel hosted by the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Social Security Disability Benefits Committee, “Justice Delayed: A Panel Discussion on the Social Security Disability Backlog Crisis.” The panel discussed the excellent Philadelphia Inquirer article by Claudia Vargas which shed light on public service crisis currently affecting hundreds of thousands of disabled Americans waiting to simply have their disability cases heard by a Judge. Currently, Philadelphians and disabled Americans throughout the country are waiting over two years to appear before a Judge. In 2017, over 5,000 people died waiting for their hearing.

Panelists including: Congressman Brendan Boyle, staff writer for the Philadelphia Inquirer Claudia Vargas, Supervising Attorney/Duffy Fellow Community Legal Services of Philadelphia Jennifer Burdick, Esq., and Claire Grandison, Esq., Staff Attorney at Community Legal Services of Philadelphia gathered at the firms Center City office last night to discuss the need for change within the Social Security disability system, and how attorneys and clients can advocate for this necessary change through political action.

“We who practice Social Security deal with the backlog every day, and a lot of times what I’ll tell people is to go to their representative and get them politically active,” said Partner Tom Giordano, Jr.
